And, Just Like that.....

Onyx driving Vandalf the Grey

Months of planning, months of building, months of donating everything I thought I "needed" finally came down to today. Behind me are the Monday morning meetings, suits, unnecessary obligations....in front of us is the open road, filled with a whole new set of challenges and adventures.

The last few nights have been unbelievable. There have been many, many adult beverages, hugs, and support from so many. My good friend Steve even forced me to go to Walmart late-night so he could buy me a proper cooler. I just don't know how I'm so lucky to be blessed by so many great souls.

But, now it's time to move on...

A Journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step

I did have one "date and time" goal for this trip, which was to be in North Georgia to watch the eclipse on a mountain. But, with all the issues of getting started, it just wasn't meant to be. SO, when life gives you lemons, you add vodka, and get the party started.

Onyx's first time being in the van happened on the day of our departure from St Pete. I was curious how he was going to act. Before even hitting a few miles, I knew this adventure was going to be a hot one. You see, Vandalf the Grey has no air conditioning. He's sort of old school like that. I wasn't really that concerned, because I hadn't really planned on being anywhere too hot (aside from the Florida exodus). But, damn....it's brutal.

I decided that our first trip is going to be Ocala, Florida to hang out with family, see the eclipse somewhere, and finish up a few more details on the van. Turns out, it's a pretty awesome adventure so far. I decided to go to Lake Weir to hang out, read a book, and watch the eclipse with my fancy eclipse glasses.

Tonight is going to be spent with a few beers, cooking with fam, and just hanging out. Looking forward to spending a week or so here before heading northbound.
